Originally the movie Super Mario Bros. by Illumination Studios, was planned to hit theaters around the world in the holiday season of 2022. However, Nintendo has confirmed this is no longer the case, and the film has been pushed back to spring 2023.
Through the official Nintendo of America account on Twitter, a message from Shigeru Miyamoto was shared, where it was confirmed that the Super Mario Bros. movie will be released until April 7, 2023 in North America, and April 28, 2023 in Japan. This was what was said about it:
“This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. movie, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023, April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My sincerest apologies, but I promise it will be worth the wait.”

Similarly, the reason why the decision was made to delay the film was not mentioned. However, considering that an exact date has already been offered, it is likely that the film will not undergo any additional change in its release date. On related topics, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseanother long-awaited animated film, has been delayed until 2023.
Editor’s note:
Without a doubt, very sad news for many. This also means that there is still some time before seeing the first official trailer for this film, and clarifying many doubts about the project. Likewise, the delay means that Illumination is treating the movie with the attention it deserves, and it’s not just another Minions adventure.
