The increase is more pronounced if one considers that, during April, the National Consumer Price Index for air transport fell 14% last April in the year-on-year comparison. However, in the case of Kayak, searches increased by 27%.
For Lise Vives, Kayak Latam’s senior regional business manager, this is related to the exit of operations of Aeromarin the case of Puerto Escondido, as well as the cessation of operations of the Colombian Viva Air.
“The most recent case was that of Viva Air, which left this route to Bogotá. There is great demand and great interest in that destination, which also has a low exchange rate; In the end, there is less competition and it causes much less connectivity, so this increases prices on this route”, he says in an interview.
The cost of both destinations occurs in the face of the summer season, where they are among the cities with the greatest interest in the platform.
Puerto Escondido is in the ninth position of the top 10 most sought after national destinations –a list led by Cancun, Mexico City and Tijuana–, while Bogotá is in the fourth position of the most sought-after international cities, only behind Madrid, Toronto and Paris. Both destinations also occupy a place among the cheapest for the summer.

“We see that the travel industry has recovered. It is increasing even though we have the highest prices; That demand has returned, and it continues to grow”, says Carolina Montenegro, vice president of Kayak for Latin America. “Mexicans are very good travelers even with the highest airfares.”
