In August of this year, the informality rate was 55.2%, with a total of 32.7 million people.
Labor informality in September was the lowest since June 2020, when it stood at 53.16%, said Gabriela Siller, director of economic-financial analysis at Banco Base.
According to the ENOE, the unemployed population was 1.8 million people, meaning the unemployment rate was 2.9%. While the underemployed population, who said they were available and in need of working more hours, was 4.8 million people.
By sector
Divided by sector, employment was distributed as follows:
- 26 million people (44%) worked in the service sector
- 11.6 million (19.6%) were dedicated to commerce.
- 9.8 million people (16.5%) worked in the manufacturing industry
- 6.5 million (10.9%) were employed in agricultural activities
- 4.5 million workers (7.6%) were in construction
The sectors that registered the greatest increase were professional, financial and corporate services, as well as commerce and the manufacturing industry, detailed the Inegi.
Of the 59.1 million employed people, 40.8 million were subordinate or paid workers, 13 million worked independently without employees; 3 million more were bosses or employers and 2.3 million worked in businesses or family plots.
