One of the biggest concerns of users around AI, and more specifically models such as ChatGPT or DALL-E, is the possibility that one day these technologies may be able to replace different jobs currently occupied by humans. It is, unfortunately for many, something viable considering the significant advances they offer. However, according to a study, there are a number of jobs that are more likely to be replaced by artificial intelligence. And surprisingly, illustrators, programmers, or writers don’t rank high on the list.
The study, carried out by a team of professors from New York University (NYU), Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), reveals that the jobs that are most at risk of being replaced by an AI like ChatGPT are, curiouslythose intended for teaching, as well as telemarketers.
To reach this conclusion, the teachers used a methodology developed in 2018, and which, as explained by one of the study authors On twitterconsists in “map 10 areas where AI was advancing (image recognition, speech recognition, language modeling, abstract strategy games, etc.) to 52 skills used in occupations”.
After carrying out this mapping, the data is compared with the information in the database of the Department of Labor in order to determine the importance of AI skills in more than 800 jobs and get what the researchers call “an AI occupational exposure score” that they have dubbed AIOE. The higher the AIOE score in a job role, the more likely AI will replace the human.
Telemarketers and language teachers: the jobs most at risk of being replaced by AI
The results, we reiterate, concluded that the positions with the highest risk of being replaced by an AI are those assigned to teaching. The first place, yes, is occupied by the telemarketers. Although the research team points out that until now the AI in these can serve as an additional help to humans, bots for language modeling could be completely capable of replacing them.
The language and literature teacher jobs they can also be easily replaced by an AI like ChatGPT. According to the study, because AI is capable of improving the way in which teachers “assign work”, being even capable of “developing teaching materials”. Specifically, the jobs that are most likely to be replaced by an AI are the following.
- Telemarketers.
- English language and literature teachers.
- Teachers of foreign language and literature.
- History teachers.
- Law professors.
There are also different industries vulnerable to AI models similar to ChatGPT. They are next.
- Juridical services.
- Securities, commodity contracts and other financial investments.
- Agencies, brokerages and other insurance activities.
- Insurance and employee benefit funds 5.
- Non-depository credit intermediation.
