The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has published the forecast of the temperature for the second half of August and the first week of September in Spain. It’s not good news. This period, from August 14 to 20, the temperatures will not be as stifling as the first half of the month, but the minimum values will still be quite high. And the heat wave is resisting in some areas.
These are normal temperatures for the time of year in much of the Iberian Peninsula. Also, remember that we will have little cloudy skies, with the exception of northern Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea, with minimal rainfall. The same in the interior of the peninsula.
In the Canary Islands the heat wave refuses to go away. Although after August 13 the temperatures will begin to decrease, the minimum may not drop below 28-30°C in some areas. A haze is also expected in the archipelago that will not help the temperature improve.
No rain for the next few weeks due to the heat wave
The Aemet forecasts indicate that no rain is expected for at least the next 20 or 25 days, with the exception of the aforementioned areas: northern Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea. The drought that many areas of the world are going through is one more consequence of the heat waves that have increased due to climate change caused by man.
July 2023 is already rated as the hottest month in Earth’s history since records have been kept. August is not expected to break that record, but we continue to see devastation caused by lack of rain, and increased drought, causing wildfires and human deaths, as has recently occurred in Hawaii.
