Mark Gurman, journalist from Bloomberg, has revealed in his newsletter weekly what the foldable iPhone will take two to three years to reach the market. Gurman’s information coincides with the predictions of other analysts, who assured a launch by, at the earliest, 2023.
The foldable iPhone will allow Apple to compete against manufacturers such as Samsung, Oppo or Xiaomi in a category that still has a long way to go. Folding smartphones are a relatively new concept, despite the fact that the first models came to light more than two years ago. The main proof of this is the quality of flexible screens that these devices integrate, which, for the moment, can be improved in several aspects.
That those in Cupertino opt for a later release than other brands should come as no surprise. The North American company is not usually the first to inaugurate a product category, but when they decide to enter it, they do so with a fairly refined product. Proof of this is the Apple Watch, which came to the market later, but has ended up reigning in its category.
The company started work on a foldable iPhone model in early 2021, as indicated Bloomberg. The aforementioned source assured that Apple has several screen prototypes for a folding smartphone. One of them could be developed by LG Display. The final design, however, appears to be unconsolidated.
Beyond the foldable iPhone: the transition to Apple Silicon chips
In addition to the details about the foldable iPhone, Gurman has indicated that transition to Apple Silicon chips will run until November 2022. A date that fits with the plans that the company executives unveiled during WWDC 2020, when they revealed this strategic move.
The first Apple computers with an ARM chip, remember, arrived in November 2020. Specifically, they presented a Mac mini, a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air. This year, the company has extended the list with the revamped 24-inch iMac. In the coming months, moreover, Apple expected to announce new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with a more powerful M1x chip.
Looking ahead to next year, the company plans to launch a redesigned MacBook Air with MagSafe charger, according to Bloomberg. Apple would also be preparing a more powerful Mac mini, as well as a Mac Pro with a more compact design than the current generation. The latter could be kept waiting until the end of 2022.
