Impact on production
According to internal Pemex figures, the first impact on production in the Ku Maloob Zaap asset – the one that contributes the most production to the state company – was 448,118 barrels last Saturday.
The oil company estimated that day’s loss at up to 700,000 barrels and Pemex director Octavio Romero Oropeza also said that the company had already managed to restore production of at least 600,000 barrels of oil.
Losses in production occurred mainly in the fields Zaap and Maloob. Both registered a drop of around 70% in their production. The first touched a production of around 51,000 barrels and the second 86,000 barrels. Both fields usually register figures above 200,000 barrels per day.
In the rest of the assets the fall was less pronounced, but Ku produced just over 1,100 barrels, when its usual production is around 20,000 barrels, according to the regulator’s figures.
A source from the oil company said that Pemex would have already achieved restore this Monday at least 70% of the operation of the fields that were affected. Pemex’s communication office was consulted in this regard, but offered no comment.
Some analysts consulted point out that it is still early to estimate the impact of the incident on the company’s goals.
