“I am in charge of initiating the dialogue to form a government in accordance with the majority will of the Spanish people,” said Feijóo.
The PP obtained 136 seats and the Socialists 122, with close to 99% of the votes counted.
The far-right Vox stayed at 33 seats, still being the third parliamentary force with 19 below its 2019 result, and its hypothetical coalition with the PP was far from an absolute majority of 176 seats.
On the other hand, the president of the Spanish government, the socialist Pedro Sánchez, claimed the victory of the left in the general elections on Sunday, despite the fact that the result, with almost 99% of the votes counted, showed a Parliament without majorities.
“The involutionist bloc that proposed a total repeal of all the progress we have made in these four years has failed,” said a euphoric Sánchez to his supporters.
