The event that Apple would hold on September 12 or 13 would not only serve to launch the new iPhone 15. Various news related to the apple watchsince the device would receive its annual update with the release of the Series 9 and the model Ultra second generation.
In the first case, it is not expected to arrive with too extravagant changes. In fact, the most noticeable modification would be the adoption of the new S9 chip, based on the A15 Bionic of the iPhone 13. However, a new leak suggests that the Apple Watch Series 9 would debut with a completely new strap design.
So says the leaker Kosutami (via 9to5Mac) in a recent post on twitter. According to the leaker, the new Apple Watch Series 9 strap it would be cloth and woven, with a magnetic buckle. Regarding the latter, it is mentioned that it could be similar to the one that Cupertino already uses in the Ink Modern Buckle and Azure Modern Buckle models.
Unfortunately, no promotional images or renders of what the new strap for the Apple Watch of 2023 would look like. What has been published is a conceptual art of what the external format of the clasp would be like, but it does not reveal much. If Californians opt for a magnetic closure like the one on the Modern Buckle straps, it wouldn’t be strange if it included a two piece system which, seen from the outside, gives the impression of being a solid buckle.
The Apple Watch Series 9 would bring a new strap with magnetic closure
What isn’t mentioned is what possible impact the new band will have on the price of the Apple Watch Series 9. Keep in mind that Cupertino offers a wide variety of models for its smartwatch, although not many of them use magnetic clasps.
In fact, only the Modern Buckle mentioned above use a buckle; the other model is leather ink, which uses “moldable magnets” that are inside the leather strap. The former are sold for $149 and are available only for the model with a 41-millimeter case, while the latter are available for $99 and are compatible with the 41- and 45-millimeter Apple Watch.
As we already indicated, the Apple Watch Series 9 will be a minor update in technical matters and will maintain the design line that the company has adopted since Series 7. The launch of a completely new strap design possibly seek to compensate for the lack of innovations in the technical section. Let’s not forget that, in addition, this year’s model will be offered in pink.
As for the second generation Apple Watch Ultra, it is also expected to arrive with the new S9 chip. However, its design will remain unchanged compared to the original model. Although it is rumored that the device will be available in a version with a black titanium case. Of which there would be no news this year would be the Apple Watch SE.
Both the Apple Watch Series 9 and the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra will run watchOS 10. The new version of the operating system was presented at WWDC last June, with special emphasis on widgets.
