Tesla finally revealed the CyberVault, the enigmatic product with which he has been playing on social networks in recent days. Is about a new home charger that stands out for presenting a design inspired by the CyberTruck, with the focus on durability and safety.
However, do not get too excited, because it is likely that you can never buy it. The new Tesla CyberVault is a product specially designed for the Chinese market, where it is not the first time that the American company has decided to launch exclusive and somewhat peculiar accessories. Let’s not forget the TeslaMic, their karaoke microphone, to mention one example.
Tesla had been promoting the launch of the CyberVault for several days with a campaign on Weibo, the most popular social network in China. However, just in the last hours we were able to know for sure what was this mysterious device about. The name implied that it could have some kind of relationship with the CyberTruck, although no one dared to predict to what extent.
The term vault —vault, in English—, also suggested that it could be a safe deposit box. Any option was possible with Tesla, who does not usually spare resources when it comes to thinking unconventional products. After all, we are talking about the same company that, in addition to revolutionizing electric mobility, has been encouraged to launch its own alcoholic beverages. Tequila and beer, no less.
Tesla launches the CyberVault, its new home charger
The CyberVault is Tesla’s new home charger, that stands out for its exterior design more than for any other characteristic. The device is protected by a box that, according to the firm, “adopts the design language of the CyberTruck.” It is clear that the product has been designed to be exposed to the open air; in the promotional video published on Tesla Asia Twitter, it is appreciated that the case is resistant to water and dust. In addition, it has a numerical combination security lock to prevent anyone from accessing without permission.
Tesla has not missed the opportunity to take the presentation with a touch of joke. The clip also shows a hammer and a couple of balls thrown against the CyberVault, in a sequence that has double reading. On the one hand, it aims to demonstrate that the box is resistant to any attempt at vandalism; on the other, it is a direct reference to the failed resistance test of the CyberTruck windows, during its presentation in 2019.
The fact that the Tesla CyberVault has a design inspired by the CyberTruck does not mean that it has been thought of as an exclusive charger for said vehicle – which has not yet reached the market. On the contrary, It is compatible with any model of the brand that is sold in Chinese lands. According to the company’s official store, the device weighs 13 kilograms and includes a 6-meter cable. Its charging performance, meanwhile, is 32 amps/7 kilowatts.
As we already indicated, the Tesla CyberVault has been released exclusively in China. Its price? 5,500 yuan; that is, a little more than 730 euros at the exchange rate of the day. Additionally, users can choose to purchase an extra accessory—a special 8-amp adapter—to turn it into a mobile charger for their electric car. It costs an additional 499 yuan (66 euros).
