Coppel, the first customer
The Telefónica executive explained that the collaboration with Starlink is not limited only to providing connectivity, but also includes a platform developed by the Spanish operator. This platform allows Telefónica customers to monitor their operations in real time, identify possible failures and generate reports efficiently.
The first company to benefit from the alliance between Telefónica and Starlink is coppel, headed by Agustín Coppel Luken. So far, this technology has been installed in 10 of the 600 branches that had been stipulated for this year.
González explained that the introduction of the new vertical in the company comes at a time when companies from various sectors, such as the retail, banking and other industries seek to digitize to optimize their operations. In this sense, it considers that the established alliance can represent a relevant business for Telefónica.
“We are still reviewing revenue estimates as this is a new technology and there is high demand. However, it is clear that this new vertical can generate interesting revenue for us as it competes directly with the traditional broadband sector. mobile and fixed broadband, in addition to offering an additional alternative for our customers,” said González.
How much will the service cost?
Initially, the new Telefónica México service will focus on serving large companies. However, the company plans to offer this new solution to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as well, and even those located in rural areas. But this will take place once the costs of the equipment needed to install Starlink’s satellite internet service have decreased.
“To reach SMEs, the service must be more affordable, especially with regard to equipment. We are considering offering this service to these small companies in the coming months,” said the Telefónica representative.
The costs of satellite internet for companies will range between 1,000 and 5,000 pesos per month. Although satellite internet service can be expensive, the company ensures that the prices offered will be competitive.
“Satellite internet is expensive but the prices that we will give will be lower compared to the rates that are handled,” he concluded.
