Considering the sales of stores that opened their doors in the last 12 months, the growth in revenue was 11.9% compared to September last year, the association reported.
In September of last year, department stores and supermarkets were still experiencing mobility limitations to avoid COVID-19 infections, and although they kept their doors open, capacity and hours were reduced.
The results of the chains go hand in hand with those of some of the union members. Grupo Sanborns and Liverpool, companies that are part of the Association, are beginning to recover after the health crisis. In the second quarter of the year, with the return of customers to the stores, they began to register growth.
Grupo Sanborns, owned by Carlos Slim, increased its income 197.1%, which means an accumulated 12,121 million pesos. While Liverpool, owner of the Suburbia stores, increased its income 154.6%, which translates into 37,537 million pesos.
At the end of 2020, the commercial chains that make up the National Association of Self-service and Department Stores collectively group more than 68,000 stores.
The total sales area of these establishments totals more than 24 million square meters.
