Additionally, Stranger Things 4 also reached number one on Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows charts in 91 countries, the first time an English-language television series has done so, the company said.
According to a 2021 Streaming Observer report, viewers on the platform watched around 164 million hours of content per day, so the scope of this title is relevant.
The other English-language shows that follow in number of views are Bridgerton: Season Two, with 656.260 million views, Bridgerton: Season 1 with 625,490 views, and Stranger Things 3, with 582.1 billion views.
Netflix has invested in its original series for several years and in 2021 alone, The Crown was its most expensive production, with an estimated $13 million investment per episode, according to a report by Statista.
Other productions such as Stranger Things or The Get Down had a cost per episode of 12 and 11 million dollars, respectively, so having a good level of audience and subscription guarantees them a next season or its cancellation.
As of the end of 2021, eight of the top 10 most-watched original streaming series titles in the United States were produced by Netflix, with the crime drama series “Narcos: Mexico” racking up the most viewing minutes. But despite the popularity of such titles, Netflix lost 200,000 subscribers in early 2022.
A Nielsen report found that Netflix led daily streaming and television viewing time in territories like the United States, with 1.13 billion minutes, but analysts say they have failed to monetize this hold.
