Sony’s recent financial report regarding the last quarter of the fiscal year was not only a way of knowing PlayStation sales, but also it has been confirmed that the company intends to launch 10 games as a service by March 2026.
According to company document, this is where the recent acquisition of Bungie would come into play, as executives and developers are expected to learn from the success of Destiny. This was what Hiroki Totoki, CFO, said about it:
“Our studios will learn from Bungie, that’s a big wish we have, the Bungie side is willing to work closely with us.”
Although the report mentions a new Bungie IP, which had originally been funded by a $100 million investment from NetEase in 2018, this project will remain multiplatform. Similarly, it is unknown if this title will be part of the 10 games as a service.
Although at the moment there are no details, It would not be unreasonable to think that the multiplayer section of The Last of Us Part 2 be one of the 10 games as a service. Along with this, previous reports have indicated that the reboot of Twisted Metal would also be within this group. However, there is not a single piece of information that indicates what the other eight titles would be.
On related topics, these are the sales of the PS5. Similarly, the PS Plus service has exceeded 48 million users.
Editor’s note:
Without a doubt, this is a position that not many expected. For the last few years, PlayStation has been characterized by single-player experiences, so taking this leap to the opposite extreme seems to indicate that the company is trying to capitalize on every possible aspect of its IP.
