If everyone involved is relaxed, they will have a good time, but if someone takes it too seriously, it is better that they play alone, for their own good and that of others.
Poor Nintendo Switch too, which cannot handle so much information so quickly, and on repeated occasions I experienced bugs that forced me to repeat the Act from the beginning.
what a beautiful game
Standing applause for the game’s visual and sound design. Not a single complaint in these sections.
The characters look cute, but splendid. It is a delight to have the original design of the heroes and villains of the saga back, not out of mere nostalgia, but because it works for this particular adventure. It’s like enjoying a new animated movie of a cartoon you loved during your childhood.
The colors of the different Zones shine, each one drawn in a unique, unmistakable way. The small details in the lighting and weather provide an authentic feeling of progress, that your adventure is taking you to fantastic and different places.
The music, as always when talking about Sonic, is a reference to the best in the industry. Although it does not have pieces as memorable as those from the original trilogy, there are some that deserve to be downloaded to your phone to listen to when you are on your way to work or school. Bravo!
Character design, settings, animations and sound make Sonic Superstars one of the most beautiful video games of this year.
What about online play?
Sega opted for an online competitive experience in which each player customizes a robot, and they face each other in short challenges.
With the medals you obtain in the main campaign you can buy parts (head, arms, torso, legs, accessories and colors) to customize your robot, but it is purely cosmetic; There are no special abilities you can add or remove.
Each match consists of three battles, all against all. The player who accumulates the most points between the three battles is the winner. The challenges range from surviving a wave of explosions, collecting stars scattered on the stage or attacking other players with lightning. Each battle lasts approximately two minutes.
It is a very basic, even poor, experience. With friends or strangers, there’s not much to do here, and the only reward is more medals to buy more parts for the robots.
It feels like a hastily added mode with little imagination, which pales greatly in comparison to the fantastic experience offered by the main campaign.
Conclusions
Sonic Superstars is a good game, sometimes very good, and has what it takes for the fan community to eventually give it the title of “classic.”
The news is successes and failures. The controls are well tuned; Each character slides smoothly between your hands.
Multiplayer and online play are the biggest areas of opportunity. Sega should try again because there really are possibilities of creating something very valuable for this saga.
If you are a Sonic fan and love his 90s classics, you should put this game on your wish list. You’ll have a very, very good time, but just focus on the story mode.
