fixed broadband [de la red de Altán] not exactly the best solution for the streaming, but we do continue to believe that the alliance we have with Altán has a lot to give. We believe that once they are out of this financial situation, they will fix those problems and delays that they had in coverage care and we will continue working together to reach more customers with more services,” Malvido assured at a press conference.
In the second quarter of this year, the company reported 255,900 disconnections and a 7.7% drop in salesup to 5,140 million pesos, compared to 5,570 million pesos in the second quarter of 2021.
The financial problems of Altán Redes forced it not to deploy infrastructure on its own without relying on its suppliers to reach remote parts of the country.
Last June, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that his administration made the decision to provide resources to Altán Redes to allow it to continue with its connectivity project, through which it seeks to bring the Internet to rural sites. In addition, he said that, with the capital injection, “The company becomes directly of the Mexican State”.
Bet on OMV to retain users
Among the new bets that Sky has to generate added value and that allows it to retain its users, is a new prepaid and postpaid mobile service which came into operation on October 17 and which, for the time being, will be available only to the company’s 700,000 customers.
For its new MVNO service, Sky has decided to use the infrastructure of AT&T despite the fact that the Altán Redes network has not represented a problem in its wireless services. Malvido explains that the company chose the operator of American origin because “it is the network that has grown the most and the one that has focused the most on 5G, and it is the most reliable in the country to build an attractive offer.”
Although Sky’s mobile service will only be for its user base, the company ensures that its offers will be focused on a consumer that generates high incomes and is something that its subscribers can afford. The company estimates that the new mobile bet can help Generate up to 5% more revenue in the next three years.
“Users who purchase our lines will be rewarded, they will have more content from Sky Premium and exclusive, discounts just for being part of Sky”, assured Malvido.
Pay television companies have been characterized in recent years for being service aggregators to retain their users. Some alternatives have been service packagingaccess to your application and phone lines just for being a customer.
Dish is a clear example of this latest business model. In 2017, it announced its MVNO FreedomPop, with which it rewards its users with a cell line with 100 minutes of air time, 100 text messages and 200 Megabytes of internet and social networks.
