Reuters – American gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from the event finals by jumping and uneven bars at the Tokyo Olympics, USA Gymnastics said on Saturday.
Biles, who continues to struggle with mental health issues, had previously withdrawn from the women’s full final on Thursday and the team final on Tuesday after failing her opening jump mark.
However, the 24-year-old could still appear at the Tokyo Games, as she has not been ruled out for the floor exercise on Monday and the balance beam on Tuesday.

“Today, after further consultation with the medical staff, Simone Biles has decided to withdraw from the event finals by jumping and uneven bars,” USAG reported in a statement.
“She will continue to be evaluated daily to determine if she will compete in the floor and balance beam finals,” he added.
Biles was expected to be one of the headliners of the Tokyo Games in a bid for six gold medals that would have made her the most successful female Olympian of all time in all sports.
But her search ended almost before it began, as the star gymnast from the United States shook the Olympic world on Tuesday when she withdrew from the team event after a jump.
Later, she decided not to defend her Olympic title in the all-around modality that her teammate Sunisa Lee won.
Biles has spoken with remarkable candor about his decision, saying that he needed to consider both his physical and mental well-being as he dealt with the “twisted” incidents of disorientation during some of his gravity-defying abilities.

“It’s honestly petrifying trying to do a skill, but not having your mind and body in sync,” Biles wrote on Instagram on Friday.
