Crossed by the coronavirus pandemic and hit by the economic crisis in the country, during Friday night faithful of San Cayetano gathered in the parish located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Liniers to, Like every August 7, venerate the saint on his day and ask the patron of bread and work.
The vigil began at sunset. A group of devotees approached the shrine. Just like last year, restrictions in the context of the pandemic they once again modified the traditional Catholic celebration.
But Unlike the last time, this time the pilgrims will be able to find the image of San Cayetano, which will be exposed to the open air and with the particularity that this time this possibility will be maintained throughout the month of August. This was decided with the idea of avoiding crowds. Under that purpose, in addition, the masses will be transmitted through social networks.
“With the pandemic, perhaps the faithful cannot come to fulfill the promise they made on the 7th. So now they will be able to come any day of the month to fulfill the promise,” explained Monsignor Juan Carlos Ares, auxiliary bishop of Buenos Aires.
The image of San Cayetano will be located in the atrium of the sanctuary located in Cuzco 150, street that will be interrupted to traffic. The temple will remain with its doors closed and the passage of the pilgrims will be in the open air. In that line, the ecclesiastical authorities discouraged the presence and encouraged participation in the social networks of the sanctuary.
As indicated by the organization, the faithful will circulate in front of the saint through a row that will move along the side of the aforementioned street in a south direction, in the direction of Rivadavia Avenue, to enter the front patio. There you can stop for a few moments in front of the image and then continue towards the exit and deconcentration also through Cuzco in the direction of Rivadavia.
Meanwhile, for those interested in following the masses and blessings on this Saturday, they will be broadcast on a delayed basis (they were already recorded, without the presence of pilgrims), including the central one.
The first can be seen from 7 o’clock on the Orbe 21 channel and on the official Facebook (San Cayetano Liniers) and Youtube (San Cayetano Sanctuary) accounts. Later, at 11, the main one will be broadcast, celebrated by the Archbishop of Buenos Aires and Cardinal Primate of Argentina, Mario Poli. “The purpose of all this is to continue taking care of us; devotion and popular faith cannot be separated from this concept, which is to take care of our health and that of all, in the health context that we are still going through, ”said Arguimbau.
This year’s celebrations will have the motto “San Cayetano, with a grateful heart, we ask you for peace, health and work”, and they will have the peculiarity that all August will be the month of the saint.
“We continue to take care of ourselves and we want to take care of you. This year, your prayer is worth the whole month. San Cayetano awaits you every day in August. It is not necessary to come on the 7th, that day there will be special care to avoid crowding of people. You can keep your promise any day of the monthArguimbau concluded.
