Samsung could follow in Apple’s footsteps and bring console games to its smartphones. The South Korean would have closed a agreement with Qualcomm and AMD to develop a version of FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)the scaling technology used in titles like starfield, Star Wars Jedi Survivor and more. This means that the next Galaxy would become a mobile video game console.
The rumor comes from @Tech_Revea well-known leaker who often shares information and benchmarks about future smartphones from Samsung and other companies. The user shared on his Twitter account (X) that the three companies will jointly develop a version of FSR that will debut in future Galaxy. In addition to scaling, one of the striking features is that it will support ray tracing (ray tracing).
According to the leaker, the alliance aims to compete with NVIDIA’s DLSS, a technology that dominates on PC and that would arrive in the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The alliance of the three companies would accelerate the development of a version of FSR for ARM. As it is a hardware-independent feature, other manufacturers could integrate it into their mobile phones, although performance would be optimized for Samsung Galaxy.
So far, Qualcomm is the only one developing a scaler for ARM. Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (GSR) can double the resolution without losing quality, which would allow play AAA titles on your mobile at more than 60 frames per second. Snapdragon GSR uses a single-pass spatial recognition technique that, according to the manufacturer, is faster than AMD FSR 1.0.
Qualcomm announced Snapdragon GSR in April and promised Unreal Engine 5 support. It is likely that the manufacturer carries its expertise to the table to combine it with AMD’s advances.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 would run AAA games thanks to Qualcomm and AMD
Something that few know is that Samsung and AMD signed an agreement a while ago to implement the RDNA 2 architecture on Exynos chips. The first to receive it will be the Exynos Auto V920, a 5 nanometer SoC that will enhance the infotainment of Hyundai cars.
Samsung’s next step would be bring FidelityFX Super Resolution to one of your flagship devices. The implementation of FSR in the Galaxy S would open the door to games with better graphics and support for ray tracing. The manufacturer would take a similar path to Apple, which takes advantage of the brute force of the iPhone 15 Pro in the version of Resident Evil Village for iOS.
Although the rumors of an alliance sound interesting, the presence of FSR in the Samsung Galaxy does not guarantee that we will see AAA games on Android. Carrying a title like survival horror Capcom’s move to mobile devices requires additional work, both in development and commercial. The most recent example is the announcement of Death Stranding for macOS, a game that would not be possible if Apple had not signed an agreement with Kojima Productions.
It is possible that those who benefit the most from the arrival of FSR are titles like Call of Duty Mobile, Genshin Impact, Asphalt 9 and other demanding mobile titles. As long as it is confirmed that this alliance exists and that the three companies are working to create an alternative to DLSS for ARM.
