Samsung has presented its candidate to compete against the most premium smartphones from manufacturers such as Apple, Oppo or Xiaomi. We talk about Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultrathe older brother —both in features and in size— of the new Galaxy S22 family, which boasts an advanced photographic section and inherits some of the most important features of the Galaxy Note.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is practically a Galaxy Note. At least, in terms of design, given that it inherits those flat edges and that rectangular format so characteristic of the previous models with S Pen. Add, yes, some aesthetic improvements. For example, the photographic module where the sensors are located is different, and now the cameras protrude from the back.
The classic stylus, of course, is also present. Now it is not offered as an optional accessory, as was the case with its predecessor, but rather is included in the device itself. The Galaxy S22 Ultra, in fact, has a hole to be able to attach the S Pen and charge it or take it everywhere.
Regarding its screen, that of the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the largest of the new family of smartphones, with 6.8 inches diagonal. It is a Dynamic AMOLED panel with QHD + resolution and an adaptive refresh rate that can reach up to 120 Hz. It is also capable of dropping down to 1 Hz to reduce energy consumption. All this, with a double curvature on both edges. It also includes an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner under the screen.
The battery of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is of the same capacity as its predecessor, with 5,000mAh. It improves, yes, the charging power, reaching up to 45W by cable, although the adapter is not included in the box. In any case, it is also compatible with wireless charging and includes PowerShare, a function to supply battery to other devices by attaching them to the back of the terminal.
What about its performance? Samsung usually bets on two different processors depending on the market. For the European Galaxy S22 Ultra, the company has opted for the Exynos 2200 chip, a SoC developed together with AMD. The US version and the one that will be available in other markets, instead, will arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The configuration of RAM and storage will be the same in both markets, with options ranging from 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB. internal memory and up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
This is the camera of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
Samsung has not neglected the photographic section in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The company, yes, maintains a camera configuration very similar to its predecessor, betting on a wide-angle sensor of up to 108 megapixels, the already standard ultra-wide-angle camera and two cameras to take pictures with optical zoom.
- Wide angle primary sensor 108 megapixels with f/1.8 aperture.
- 120º ultra wide angle camera with resolution of 12 megapixels and f/2.2 aperture.
- telephoto sensor 10 megapixels with 3x optical zoom and f/2.4 aperture.
- telephoto sensor 10 megapixels with 10x optical zoom and f/4.9 aperture.
- 40 megapixel front camera.
That Samsung includes two sensors with similar characteristics is not something new. In fact, this configuration can achieve a digital zoom up to 100x. Samsung calls this scope SpaceZoom and, although it does not offer a quality as sharp as the results that can be obtained with 3 or 10 magnifications in optics, it can be useful for specific occasions.
All this, moreover, is spiced up by new processing algorithms that promise to elevate the photographic experience of the S22 Ultra even above that offered by its predecessor, which was one of the best phones of last year.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, like the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus, can be reserved soon in the company’s online store. Its price, for the moment, is unknown.
