Trump’s biggest rival
This 44-year-old former Navy lawyer is the main obstacle to the Republican inauguration of former President Donald Trump, a man with whom he shares his main ideas, but not his excesses.
The former president, who moved to Florida after leaving the White House, has gone from being an ally of DeSantis to writing daily messages against him.
The governor of Florida, born in the state 44 years ago, does not usually respond hotly to the attacks of the 76-year-old ex-governor, but from time to time he looses a poison dart at his former mentor.
“Government is not entertainment, it’s not about building a personal brand or pointing out virtues. It’s about getting results,” DeSantis said during his address Wednesday, referring to the former president, though he did not mention his name.
DeSantis achieved one of the great triumphs of the Republicans in November 2022 with his re-election as governor. He is credited with being the most responsible for this state in the southeastern United States having embraced the color red, that of the Republican Party, after having been part of the states without a fixed voting pattern.
“Politics are useless if we don’t win, if we lose elections,” DeSantis said. In the 2022 midterm elections, many of the Republican candidates supported by Donald Trump failed in their campaigns, something that some wings of the party did not like.
