Xiaomi does not stop releasing smartphones like churros, and this is good news for many, but also bad for some. The fact that the Chinese company launches a large number of mobile phones on the market during the year gives the user the opportunity to choose the device that best suits their needs. This, however, can lead to doubts and confusion about which smartphone to choose, since many of them are very similar in terms of specifications and prices, with practically imperceptible differences. A clear example is the recently announced Little X4 GTmodel that in hypertextual We have been able to in depth and that it shares characteristics with another of the most recommended devices of the brand.
The Poco X4 GT is presented as one more option for those users who are looking for a mobile with balanced features to a price less than 400 euros. It does it with a processor MediaTek, a huge 5,000 mAh battery and a panel that stands out for its refresh rate, which reaches 144 Hz. Precisely, specifications similar to those of the rest of its brothers. The Poco F4, for example, has a similar screen configuration, a practically identical camera and a processor that also stands out for its efficiency. All this, with a price difference of 50 euros.
But, How does this mobile behave compared to the Poco F4 and compared to the rest of its competition? Can the MediaTek chip offer better performance than the SoCs included in the rest of the devices that are around 400 euros?
Performance and autonomy: MediaTek surprises
One of the main strengths of this Poco X4 GT, as I mentioned, is its processor. Xiaomi has chosen to include a MediaTek brand chip in this device, and this would not be news, if it were not for the model we are talking about. The SoC, in particular, it’s a dimension 8100, one of the best chips from the Chinese manufacturer that stands out, above all, for its energy efficiency. The Dimensity 8100, moreover, has nothing to envy to the rest of the processors that we see in mid/high range smartphones; such as the Snapdragon 870 itself. But let’s go in parts.
In my experience, I have to say that the Poco X4 GT does a very good job in terms of performance. Especially considering its price. The terminal manages to correctly manage any type of task; it opens apps smoothly, the interface, except for a few cuts, moves smoothly, and the games manage to process them correctly: without lag and with the possibility of applying some parameters to the maximum without the terminal suffering too much or overheating .
In terms of performance tests, the Dimensity 8100 has returned a multi-core score of 3693 points, while the Snapdragon 870 of the Poco F4 has obtained a score of 3200 in the multi-core test. That is, MediaTek outperforms Qualcomm.
Let’s talk about autonomy. The Poco X4 GT arrives with a 5,000mAh battery, a quite considerable capacity and that already promises a good duration. This, however, are just numbers. In addition to capacity, we must also take into account other parameters, such as display technology, how well the interface is optimized, or the efficiency of the processor.
In this case, the Poco X4 GT has a bit of everything. Its LCD screen is not the most efficient, as it is constantly illuminated -remember that the black tones of an OLED or AMOLED panel are, after all, finished pixels, and this saves a little more battery-.
Its processor, however, manages to compensate for the slightly lower efficiency of the LCD screen, and makes the battery of the Poco X4 GT one of its best features. During my tests, I have been able to get to the end of the day with approximately 40% battery. That, for a smartphone, and for my use (social networks, the occasional video on YouTube, photography, etc.), is excellent news.
Sacrificing in design and screen has been a very good idea
The design and the screen are not two of the most remarkable points of the Poco X4 GT, but they are also important. partly because both are what make the price of this terminal so attractive. We start with the appearance.
The Poco X4 GT is a terminal made of polycarbonate, with a back cover of the same material and a front that stands out for its slightly curved screen at the corners and with minimal frames. The back is sober, with a matte finish that in turn creates a satin effect that imitates glass., although it does not feel glass. It also stands out for its photographic module located in the upper area. The terminal, on the other hand, has aluminum frames that manage to give a more ‘premium’ feel and compensate for the plastic feel of the rear.
Regarding the screen, the Poco X4 GT mounts a 6.6-inch LCD panel with Full HD+ resolution. It also has a refresh rate of 144 Hz that, combined with the good performance of the processor, allows for a much more fluid user experience. The panel complies correctly in terms of color and sharpness, with some hits in brightness when we use the device outdoors and, above all, in the front glass, which maximizes light reflections. Nothing major considering the price.
The screen, on the other hand, includes different functions that the user can modify through the system settings. For example, it is possible to choose between different shades, opting for more saturated and intense colors, or more natural ones. It is also possible to adjust the screen refresh rate and choose between a default option, in which the terminal automatically adapts it depending on what you’re playing; or manual, going up to 144 Hz (although it really works at 120 Hz).
How do the cameras of the Poco X4 GT work?
What about the cameras of the Poco X4 GT? Xiaomi has opted for a simple configuration, very similar – to no one’s surprise – to what we see in all mid-range smartphones. This device, in particular, has a 64 megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel resolution macro sensor. Unlike its big brother, the Poco F4, it does not include an optical image stabilizer. But how are your results?
When the lighting is acceptable, such as outdoors or indoors with good natural light, the Poco X4 GT’s main camera manages to take a few shots more than correct for its price. The tones, for my taste, are a bit saturated, and do not fully resemble reality, especially in the more intense ones, such as the green ones. However, it meets the level of detail. It is weak, yes, in the exposure of the skies, but nothing that cannot be solved with the her mode activated.
The ultra wide angle camera loses some detail in front of the main lens, especially indoors or in dimly lit settings. However, it manages to maintain correct tones. The macro lens, on the other hand, is useful for taking pictures at close range and focusing on detail, although the quality is not as good as that offered by the rest of the sensors. Fortunately, it is not a lens that a user is going to get much out of.
The Poco X4 GT also includes different modes and options in its camera app. Among them, an option to take pictures in the maximum resolution (64 megapixels), a long exposure mode, to be able to take pictures playing with the lights and, of course, a pro mode; with the possibility of adjusting some parameters manually.
What you should not overlook about the Poco X4 GT
- The Poco X4 GT has stereo sound. The speakers are located on the top and bottom bezels, and they reproduce correct sound. They are also compatible with Dolby Atmos.
- It arrives with Android 12 and MIUI 13. Xiaomi’s customization layer is one of the most complete that we can find on a smartphone. It includes a multitude of customization options and features that can help improve the user experience. There are some features, mind you, that are a bit useless.
- Includes a fingerprint scanner on the side. It’s not the most comfortable position, in my opinion, but it’s really fast. The terminal is unlocked just by resting your finger on the scanner.
- It has NFC. The Poco X4 GT has an NFC chip to be able to make mobile payments through apps like Google Pay.
Price and conclusions, is the new Poco mobile worth it?
The Poco X4 GT is available in the company online store by €379.99 in the case of the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and 429.99 euros for the variant with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. Now, is this smartphone worth it compared to its competition and compared to its older brothers?
One of the aspects that has most caught my attention about this Poco X4 GT is its performance, and more specifically its processor. The MediaTek Dimensity 8100 does a great job, both in terms of power and optimization, and this is very good news, because it is not necessary to look for an option with a higher price if what you prioritize in a mobile is that it has good performance. To this, in addition, we must add an excellent battery and a camera that, for this price, performs correctly.
Where it is weakest is in the section of the screen and the designor, that it is one step below its competition, since the panel does not have AMOLED technology, and its appearance does not feel as ‘premium’ as other smartphones. Again, we must take into account the price. The mobiles that do include an OLED or AMOLED screen, as well as a less sober design, are for 50, 100 or even 150 euros above this Poco X4 GT. And honestly, I don’t think it’s worth paying that difference for a slightly better quality screen; because this terminal offers very good results.
In short, if you are looking for a mobile with good performance, battery, a decent camera and you don’t mind losing in design and screen technology, the Poco X4 GT is, without a doubt, the best option.
