Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to end and Phase 5 is already announced as a before and after in the narrative. Beginning with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the production that will present the key villain of the Multiverse Saga: Kang, The Conqueror. Although it is still necessary to wait for the premiere of the film, its director, Peyton Reedis releasing some clues about what it could be.
During an interview with AccessAs part of the meetings with the press in the last edition of the Comic-Con 2022 in San Diego, Peyton Reed said, in relation to the return of this saga to the screens, soon: “Starting Phase 5 is really exciting for us , because we are inside the Ant-Man movies. It’s our third movie.”
To this comment he added another, in relation to the whole narrative and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: “Things happen in this movie that are going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe permanently.. And it’s fun for us that Scott Lang is at the center of that change.” Actor Paul Rudd, on his role through the years, said: “It’s fun to play a normal guy who finds himself in extraordinary circumstances. He is a character who seems to be in conflict with being a superhero. Fighting against that and trying to do fun things at the same time is a challenge.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
and the growth of Scott Lang
When the first installment of Ant Man premiered, perhaps few people imagined that the character would have such a long journey and that he would find himself in a scenario like the one described above, being a hinge between the different phases and promising to alter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It can be interpreted as an implicit message: even the smallest characters can have a noticeable influence on the rest of the circumstances.
It already happened in Avengers: Endgamewhen the Scott Lang escaped by chance from the Quantum Realm. His return to the reality in which the Earth is still suffering from the effects of the cracking of Thanos it confronts him with that environment and, in turn, opens the door to time travel to make amends. Judging by Peyton Reed’s promise and the movie’s title, that particular quantum parameter-related universe will be key.
On the other hand, this film will be the excuse to present the version of Kang the Conqueror which the Avengers will have to face in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Or at least one of them. During the season finale of Loki it was revealed that this character, like everyone in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has different variants. Maybe Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania be just the beginning of a parade of representations about the most powerful adversary of this moment in the narrative.
