Since the launch of PlayStation 5fans have been demanding that the console receive support for VRR. The Variable Refresh Rate is a technology that prevents and eliminates annoying screen tearing as well as other visual inconsistencies. Basically, it allows games to perform a bit better. The good news is that Sony confirmed that in the coming months this function will come to the console.
In a new publication of P.S.Blogthe Japanese firm announced that the VRR will reach PS5 “in the following months”. This functionality will be supported on “HDMI 2.1 compatible televisions and compatible monitors”. Sony explained some of the benefits of VRR:
“VRR makes gameplay in many PS5 games feel smoother as scenes render immediately, graphics look sharper, and input lag is reduced.”
Sony indicates that some already released games may receive support for VRR through patches, and confirmed that many future titles will have this feature from day one. It will also be possible to enable VRR in games that don’t natively support it, though this could have mixed results.
As we get closer to implementing the VRR on PS5, Sony promised that they will provide more details about it, including a list of initial games that will receive a patch to incorporate this feature. In the meantime, don’t forget to update your PS5 that today received a new patch.
Publisher’s note: It’s certainly great news that Sony is listening to the community about what features they want to see on the PS5. Slowly but surely, the Japanese company has been implementing some of these features, and everything indicates that over time many of them will continue to arrive eventually.
