“It is a great time to do podcasts in Mexico, we want to be an alternative to the advertising model that is finally one of the most popular options for podcasts to sustain themselves. For this reason, through the platform we seek to help them not only have this alternative and open another window for them,” Wendolín Perla, country manager of Podimo in Mexico, pointed out in an interview.
In the presentation of this new platform were the creators of the podcast doubts are given awaywho shared that the start of this project arose from casual conversations between Lety Saha and Ashley Frangie.
The podcast has been so successful that they have already managed to publish a book and have collaborations with companies from different sectors, which have relied on the dissemination of the audio product. Now with the launch of Podimo, the podcast will be available to users with content curated by them and by the platform’s creative team, which will be called: Love Tour.
According to the analysis firm Statista, in 2022 there were an average of 34 million podcast listeners in Mexico and the number is expected to increase 18% within three years, reaching 40 million by 2025.
The company will have a local team that will be in charge of seeking content alliances with podcasters and producers, as well as talent that will focus on marketing and brand growth. However, in addition to this team located in Mexico, the platform has a global team where they have specialized areas in Artificial Intelligence or product development.
“We are going to an audience that goes from 30 to 40 or 45 years old, since they are the ones who are curious about the model we have, since it is paid. In the case of a gen Z community, it is more difficult to reach, since they are more focused on fast content and video,” Perla specified.
Podimo Exclusive Podcasts
In addition to Se Regalan Dudas, there will be content focused on an audio documentary format, as is the case of the production under the voice of journalist Laura Sánchez Ley, on the Colosio case.
Denise Dresser, will be another of the voices of Podimo and will travel from pre-Columbian Mexico to that of the 21st century, presenting those events that have forged the country. It is a program full of humor, sarcasm and irony.
In addition, Legendary Legends will also premiere a podcast called Legendary Experiments, where José Antonio Badía, Eduardo Espinosa and Mario Lopez Capistrán will take the public through the most peculiar scientific stories in history.
According to Perla, the audio categories that there will be will range from podcasts, audiobooks, to documentary series. And regarding the themes, entertainment is one of the most popular podcast genres in Mexico, for its part Statista points out that 57% of Internet users surveyed in the country consume comedy and audio entertainment.
