How will the Pemex radio communication system operate?
The communication network will be established using Pemex’s own infrastructure, made up of master and remote stations equipped with antennas for the transmission and reception of signals, operating in the frequency range of 406.1 to 410 MHz. The network will also incorporate several devices for remote monitoring, diagnosis and control.
The state oil company has reported a increase in accidents at its facilities, whose situation has led to a downgrade in its credit rating at the end of the first half of this year. The new radio communication system could help reduce accidents.
This initiative is in line with a recurring trend in industries classified as high risk, such as mining. Companies like Autlán and Peñoles in the mining sector have already obtained concessions from the IFT for similar radio communication projects.
The Federal Telecommunications Institute confirmed that Pemex has the necessary financial resources to carry out the telecommunications project. However, during an electromagnetic compatibility analysis carried out by the regulatory body, possible interference problems were identified within the assigned frequency spectrum between the systems of the Pemex network.
In response, Pemex assured the IFT that its technical staff would address any interference concerns and take the necessary steps to mitigate or eliminate operational impacts.
“In the event of such affectations, Pemex technical staff will proceed to review and take the pertinent actions to minimize or eliminate the operational impact, as well as generate the corresponding modification requests,” the state oil company responded.
The state oil company will not be subject to compensation for the concession of frequency bands for public use, which is granted for a period of 15 years. This means that Pemex will be authorized to use the assigned spectrum band until 2038.
