The first indications of the spill are dated July 4, three days before the fire at a gas compression platform.
The state oil company Pemex concealed a large oil spill located in the same area of the Gulf of Mexico where the fire on the Nohoch-A platform in the Campeche Sound took place just under two weeks ago.
The spill has been discovered after the taking of satellite images that were processed by the geographer Guillermo Tamburini and that have been supported by environmental organizations such as Greenpeace and the Mexican Center for Environmental Law.
The first indications of the spill are dated July 4, three days before the fire at a gas compression platform. Until last July 12, the spill already had an area of 400 square meters, according to information released by the organizations.
