The second episode of Moon Knight gave us two new characters that will give us something to talk about, Marc Spector and Mr Knight, two different roles for Oscar Isaac
Episode 2 of Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight series, titled “Summon the Suit,” reveals not one, but two new characters, who are essentially different sides of the same coin, Marc Spector and Mr Knight, both played by Oscar Isaac. .

For the first time, viewers can clearly see who else is on Steven Grant’s head, revealing mercenary Marc Spector along with some of his many secrets. Plus, Mr. Knight enters the fray, as Steven’s version of the Khonshu avatar, complete with a handsome all-white three-piece suit.
So now, Oscar Isaac is tasked with not only playing two different characters on the series, but also two different superheroes. And clearly, if that’s not enough, he sometimes has to play a combination of them at the same time: talking, interacting, and arguing (although if you ask Steven, Marc is devastatingly handsome).
From separate shots to dual personality
As director and executive producer Mohamed Diab explains to Marvel.com: “At first, we weren’t clear on who Marc is and who Steven is. At first, Oscar just wanted [encarnar] Steven one day and Marc one day, never the same day”.
All of this was to keep things in order for Isaac, along with the team that brought Marc and Steven to life. But, as Diab continues, “After a while there were a couple of scenes where he was talking in front of the mirror and I said, ‘Why don’t you try [ambos personajes]?’ I kept pushing him and encouraging him. Suddenly he did something magical”.
The “magic” is that Isaac, who was now comfortable slipping between the two characters, was able to do it in the same shot. He went from one character to another just in the blink of an eye.
“When the camera is rolling, suddenly he’s someone elseDiab says. “Once it’s Marc, you see him getting taller and taller. When he’s Steven, he’s so approachable. Oscar actually wanted to go back and do [algunas escenas] again, the shots he took on different days. In fact, he wanted to do it in the same take because he became [ambos personajes]. In all the times that came after, we did so. In those seconds, he is another person. It’s inhabiting a different persona and being a different person, assuming a different demeanor and a different accent. It’s not easy, but he did it. He is a genius “.
Between mirrors and dialogues, the work of Oscar Isaac
Episode 2 directors Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson came in knowing that Steven and Marc’s ability to communicate through mirrors and reflections was already established, and they took it to another level when we see the two characters have full conversations for the first time. .
It first happens after Steven broke into Marc’s storage locker, and then when Marc is finally in control of the body and angrily yells at Steven about everything going on with Khonshu.
“The visual approach was really based on the idea of Oscar telling us, ‘hey, I’m comfortable going between these two characters at this point,’ so we were able to do really old-school techniques of literally: the camera goes after Oscar performing to Marc and now he is Steven in the mirrorBenson explains.
“We could do all of that on camera, because he felt safe enough with that. It was something that he appeared on the first day able to do. You would look at him without him even speaking, and you would know what character he was”.
These first two instances of the back-and-forth conversation between the characters also establish exactly what kind of relationship they have. As Moorhead continues, “They not only have an antagonistic relationship; They have this kind of brotherly relationship where they argue because they want different things, but they also care about each other in weird ways.”
“They have a shared history. That’s how we got so close to the storage locker scene where Steven talks directly to Marc for the first time, and then where they actually take each other’s souls in the broken pyramid mirror scene.”.
Mr Knight arrives on the scene
Speaking of establishing characters, Mr. Knight also has to join in on the action, which also gives Steven and Marc a chance to talk back and forth in this outfit as well. Steven only comes to acquire this suit after Layla yells at him to “summon the suit” when Steven falls out a window in a panic.
I brought? Steven doesn’t have a suit. So, he summons what he thinks is the best suit for him at the moment.
“Mr. Knight is Steven Grant’s vision of a cool guy, a slender manMoorhead reveals. “Having the gifted suit does not mean that you have gifted fighting skills. And if you don’t have skills, you’re going to lose this fight. We built everything around making losing the fight scary and scary”.
From saying to doing
While he has a new look and cheers, what is he going to do with them? Steven quickly realizes that becoming a superhero is a bit more difficult than simply summoning a suit. To really drive that point home, by the time Steven lands on his call”hero pose“, it immediately falls off.
“We spoke with Oscar about that exact momentMoorhead laughs. “He said: ‘I want to fall’. Like, landing like he’s a superhero and then just falling off. And that fixed everything for us”.
“It should also be noted that falling down a bit is one of the many points in the show where Oscar found the best joke of the moment.Benson adds. “Oscar is obviously good at a lot of things, but what people might not know is that he’s a very, very funny guy. You can tell when he’s going to like a joke, because he’s one of those people who laughs when he tells you about it and gets caught by his contagiousness.”.
