Pro Evolution Soccer, the soccer video game known as PES, has changed its name. Konami, a developer company, has announced that now it will be called eFootball. It will be a game free to play and multiplatform that will enjoy different updates to add new modes and functionalities.
eFootball will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One and PC. The video game will also have a version available for iOS and Android with game modes identical to those that we can find on consoles. The Japanese firm has highlighted that both the graphics and animations, as well as the gameplay, will be redesigned in this future version.
eFootball will feature Unreal 4, the game engine created by Epic Games that will allow more detailed graphics. On the other hand, a technology called Motion Matching will take care of offering more precise animations in each movement.
The goal of eFootball is to become a gaming platform similar to Fortnite, with updates that add new features. In this case, new teams, game modes, tournaments, etc. Therefore, Konami will not release new paid versions every year. While they have not clarified what the monetization method will be, it is likely that they will be included in-app purchases, with the possibility of acquiring matches or extras. These, in principle, would not increase the advantage over other players, but would be aesthetic additions.
The developer company will announce more details about the video game at the end of August, although it has already shown the modes and events that will arrive after its launch, which it will be in autumn –No exact date confirmed–. In early fall, eFootball will allow cross-gen matches with PS5 and PS4, as well as Xbox Series S or X and Xbox One.
The functions of the game, in addition, will be somewhat limited and will be increased in future updates. Later, players will be able to compete against users of other devices, such as PC. In winter, in addition, the mobile support, with the possibility of downloading the game on iOS or Android and competing with console players. On mobile, eFootball, yes, it will require a controller for the crossplay.
At the moment, Konami has shown some details of the video game in a first trailer, which has Messi and Neymar as protagonists. The company confirmed in an interview with IGN that Andrés Iniesta and Gerard Piqué were part of the development of eFootball as advisers, in order to offer a more realistic gaming experience.
