Nothing recently announced the release date of its first product: a headset. true wireless called Ear (1). The mysterious company created by Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, has not stopped showing small advances about this device, such as its design, commercial agreements and, now, its price and its main characteristic.
In Europe, headphones true wireless by Nothing will cost 99 euros. Carl Pei has commented in an interview with TechCrunch, which is “a fairly fair price for consumers.” It also highlights that it will have similar characteristics to the AirPods Pro, which are currently marketed for 279 euros.
“Users can expect a premium user experience, along with leading specifications such as ANC, all for 99 euros. ” assures the company in a statement.
One of these characteristics, and the most outstanding, will be the active noise cancellation (ANC). This technology will be able to capture outside sound thanks to three built-in microphones on headphones. Then, through a series of algorithms, it will cancel out the noise before entering our ear. We do not know, for the moment, if the Ear (1) will arrive with a system that allows adjusting the level of noise cancellation.
Nothing’s headphones will have a transparent design
The company, which has as investors Tony Fadell (creator of the iPod), Casey Neistat (youtuber), Kevin Lin (co-founder of Twitch), Steve Huffman (CEO of Reddit) and Google Ventures, confirmed that the headphones will have a transparent design. Nothing, at the moment, has only shown images by way of teasers. The final design of the Ear (1) remains a mystery.
The Ear (1) headphones, which will arrive on July 27, will be Nothing’s first device, but not the only one. The company prepares the launch of other products what, according to reports, they could be focused on the audio. Throughout these months, the London-based company has partnered with different firms that will collaborate in the creation or design of its next products. One of them is Teenage Engineering.
Carl Pei’s firm also bought Essential, a mobile company founded by Andy Rubin and which ceased in 2020. This move, announced in February 2021, suggests that Nothing could also announce a smartphone at some point.
