Attention! spoilers below
Obi-Wan Kenobi of Disney+ premiered its first two chapters and the surprise cannot be greater. It is not only about an elegant series, well constructed and with a very adult tone. Also, it has started with a strong foot: rewrite the context of one of the most beloved and referenced characters in the saga.
A very young Leia Organa has been an essential part of the first chapter. As much as to make it clear that from now on she will be a fundamental piece of the series, just as she was in the first trilogy and the following films.
But the peculiarity is that the director Deborah Chow decided to show the great hero of Star Wars in his childhood at the beginning of Obi-Wan Kenobi. To be exact, during the first years of his life.
Leia Organa, princess of Alderaan, is shown at a completely unknown point. And it is in her role as the little daughter of Bail and Breha Organa. The series, almost surprisingly, included the life of the princess in court and also the way in which, as a child, her life seemed linked to the fall of the Republic.
One of the points of greatest interest in the two released chapters is the fact that the trailer seemed to announce that the point of interest Obi-Wan Kenobi would be Luke. But redirecting the narrative towards Leia allows her to delve into the political world ten years after the advent of the Empire. At the same time, analyze Leia as a character separate from the mythology of her brother and especially with its own weight in the plot.

The little big princess in Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi It covers the life of the Jedi Master, ten years after Order 66 that wiped out much of the Order. Now, the titular character lives in harsh exile and has little contact with Owen, under whose protection Luke grows up. However, it is clear that for Kenobi, the boy’s — latent — capacity for The Force is a matter of interest and concern. Oddly enough, it’s not the same with Leia.
Protected by the court of Alderaan, until the beginning of the series, Leia seemed protected from any threat and especially, outside the reach of the Empire. But made the target of the inquisitors to attract Kenobi, her character takes on her enhancement. More importantly, she shows a number of elements about Leia that have not been explored in the film canon until now.
Did Leia manifest any abilities related to The Force since her childhood? For now, the only thing evident is that the girl has extraordinary intelligence and maturity. Also, that she has been educated with good sense and the Court.
In addition, and this is a fact of considerable relevance, that some of the members of the royal family were aware of the fact that it was an adopted girl.
Does the latter change the character’s perception of the future beyond Obi-Wan Kenobi? Knowing that she is adopted, or at least that she has a past that is not entirely clear, wouldn’t that have triggered other events? The notion of Leia’s power and quest for peace could come from her place on Alderaan. She also has a clear and concise awareness of herself and perhaps the unanswered questions of her past.

A challenge that the series takes with intelligence and sobriety.
