Guillermo Rosales, president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), highlights in an interview that this faster recovery in Asian supply chains has been a key factor in the availability of units and in the improvement in sales figures .
Nissan in Mexico experienced a 34.7% increase, equivalent to just over 6,000 additional units, in vehicle sales in March thanks to an improvement in production.
Mazda also posted a significant increase in new vehicle sales, up 83.2% compared to the same month last year. The Japanese brand sold 7,105 units during the month, from the almost 4,000 sold in March 2022, consolidating itself as another of the Asian brands that have experienced growth in the Mexican market.
On the other hand, the surge of Chinese brands has boosted model sales. MG Motor, owned by the Chinese giant Saic, registered sales of 4,925 units, representing a 40.6% increase compared to 2022. All the brand’s vehicles are assembled in China.
With that figure, the company surpassed those players with more years in the local market, such as Honda, Hyundai, Ford, and Renault.
The Chinese brand Chirey, owned by the Chinese state giant Chery, gained the market in Mexico by placing 3,369 units in the month, representing a 2.8% market share. JMC, Changan and Baic, Chinese brands brought together by Motornation, together sold 1,035 units, an advance of 155.6%.
