The 94th edition of the Oscars positions Netflix as one of the favorites with 25 nominations.
The Power of the Dog gets a record 12 nominations, including Best Picture.
Streaming services have stood out in recent years in the awards.
The Oscar awards have been a phenomenon that rewards to the best of cinema. Throughout history, production houses have invested millions of dollars with the aim of creating films that captivate audiences and remain in the hearts of all people.
In recent years, however, the inclusion of streaming services in these areas has gained much relevance, despite the fact that at first it was frowned upon by many directors and actors on the big screen, considering that the quality of said productions it was not the same as that of the production houses.
However, time has passed and in 2022 no one would dare to point out that the productions of streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney+among others, do not have sufficient quality to fight for the statuettes.
Therefore, now that the list of nominations for the Oscars has been revealed, we cannot help but highlight the participation of Netflix, the giant and pioneer of streaming services.
Netflix stands out with 25 Oscar nominations
Despite what has been said above, Netflix has been recognized since its inception for being mainly a quality platform, having since its inception programs that have managed to mark times such as Stranger Things, BlackMirror Y Darkto name a few.
The list of the Oscars has included material from Netflix in several of its categories, with 25 nominations achieved by the production company, many more than any other counts.
Some of those that stand out are the nominations for best actor for Andrew Garfield and Benedict Cumberbatchfor Tick, tick… Boom! Y The Power of the Dogcompeting with one of this year’s favorite performances with Will Smith in king richard from HBOMax.
As best director for The Power of the Dog is New Zealand director Jane Campion.
On the other hand, but no less important, as Best Actress highlights the participation of Olivia Colman in The Lost Daughter.
The rise of streaming platforms
While Netflix continues to ravage his 25 nominationssome other services begin to relegate little by little to the production houses, being Disney through its 20th Century Studios label one of the few that stood out due to the multiple nominations of the new adaptation of the musical West Side StoryDirected by Steven Spielberg.
On the other hand, studios such as Apple TV +, Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max achieved important nominations with some of their films, especially positioning actors, actresses, directors and directors in many of the most important academy awards.
It should be noted that, of the 25 Netflix nominations for the Oscars, The Power of the Dog got a record of 12, including Best Picture. This is undoubtedly a historical fact considering that a few years ago, few were betting on the prominence that streaming platforms would progressively have.
Finally, despite the fact that on many occasions, the films and studios with the most nominations do not necessarily win the majority of the awards in the categories in which they are considered, the quality of their productions should be highlighted, which, surely, year after year they will continue to exceed their own standards.
