All health professionals face multiple risks for the simple fact of carrying out their duties. At the same time, in the same way that it happens with the rest of the population, they are exposed to violence that seems to have no end in Mexico. In fact, the most recent case is that of a nurse murdered in Chiapas occurred under mysterious conditions.
The dark side of medicine
To begin with, it is necessary to talk about the negative part of caring for patients. One of the biggest has to do with the condition of the job because in most cases it is necessary meet long hours. Unlike other races, in this case they do not always last eight hours but can be extended for longer.
As a result of the above, it is common for the elements to develop high levels of stress and fatigue. The direct consequence is the Burnout syndrome and in the end it all leads to lower performance and poor quality of life.
Another risk involved in working in hospitals or clinics is the permanent coexistence with viruses, bacteria and fungi. All workers are exposed to various diseases and therefore their integrity is always at risk.
Nor can one ignore the financial part. While in other countries health workers receive an attractive salary, in the case of Mexico this is not the case because the pay is much lower and does not correspond to all the years of training.
Murdered nurse, was it a femicide?
Added to all of the above, there is another adverse point, although it is not exclusive to one union, but affects all Mexicans. It’s about the violence and is found in all corners of the national territory. Today there are no safe zones left because horror stories are spread in every state.

According to the report, the criminals fired firearms of various calibers at the nurse. After the attack they fled and so far the identity of all the attackers is unknown.
Because no valuables were taken, it has been ruled out that it was an attempted robbery. While it is now suspected that it was a case of femicide although the case has not yet been reclassified.
For its part, what is known is that the Murdered nurse worked in a private hospital. Although to date there are no indications of the reason why she was attacked in such a violent way until her death was caused.
This unfortunate fact is generated in one of the moments of greatest violence against women. In accordance with The Economist, an average of 10 femicides are recorded per day in Mexico. While more than half remain unpunished because those responsible are never captured.
