After years of steady growth, the industry of cinema was severely affected by the pandemic between 2020 and 2022. Although little by little the pace of 2019 is being resumed, now party goers face a new problem: inflation.
According to data collected by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography for Mexico City, between May 2019 and May 2022, saw a 30% increase in movie ticket prices. Here it is mentioned that a general ticket for adults went from costing $85 pesos to $110 pesos. Thus, all modalities have suffered from an increase, this includes matinee prices, weekends, VIP, and more.
This increase comes after 350 million tickets sold in Mexico in 2019, a record in the last 10 years. Although the INEGI data speaks only of Mexico City, a report by the National Chamber of the Film Industry (Canacine), has indicated that throughout the country there was an increase of 17.23% in the prices of movie tickets. However, it is important to mention that this number arises when taking into account several factors, such as the average income throughout the country.
Regardless of the method, it is clear that in the last three years, going to the movies has become a greater luxury for some people. In related topics, here you can see the new trailer for Andor. Similarly, believe 3 is delayed.
Editor’s note:
Going to the movies has become a luxury for many people. In addition to the price of the ticket, you also have to consider food, parking, transportation, and many more factors that make a simple trip to the movies, an experience that is no longer available to some.
