Moises Luna, Motorola’s product manager for Central America, noted that this working group conducts prototype testing around the world. In order to solve different design and research edges, this team is multidisciplinary and focuses on four verticals: technical knowledge, user experience, collaboration with other brands and patent enforcement.
To show one of the advances that the brand has, Motorola brought the Moto Rizr prototype, a phone that we originally saw at MWC this year, but with which Expansión was able to interact in person.
“It is a prototype that in its compact form measures 5 inches, but when extended it has a dimension of 6.5 inches. It also has a main camera with several lenses and a selfie camera”, Luna pointed out.
The screen in its total size has a size of 7.36 inches and a weight of 210 grams, it works through a mechanism where with two clicks it is possible to deploy it on the surface of the device, which allows users to have a larger screen. similar to what foldable smartphones currently do.
In addition to the fact that this device can represent a future for the commitment of technology brands, it becomes relevant as it has patents from Lenovo and Motorola.
Why are patents important in the technology industry?
As is the case with all industries, generating research and development that culminates in patents allows companies to develop unique products in the market, but also a scientific and technical base that they can commercialize with their competitors. Although Motorola is not the only one in this competition for roll-up screens, it is important that they begin to show these equipment to the press and within technology fairs.
After MWC in February, Oppo patented a rollable device, which also included an under-display camera, while Samsung and TCL have sought to introduce ‘unroll’ displays in recent months. Where many of the bases is the development that the folding devices on the market are beginning to have, a vertical that could grow up to 50%, according to IDC.
The consultant points out that this year, the units shipped will be up to 21.4 million, a relevant figure after the 14.2 million units that were sold in 2022.
