At Geek Culture we tested the new Motorola smartphone, the Moto G52, a mid-range device that offers a 90Hz screen, a battery for a day and a half, and good performance. Meet him here!
Motorola has a large catalog of smartphones that adapt to all kinds of needs. On this occasion in Geek Culture we tried the new Moto G52, a mid-range device that offers good performance and a battery for a whole day. In addition, the cell phone is equipped with a 90Hz screenall this for a good price-quality ratio.
DESIGN
Let’s start with the exterior of the Moto G52. We have in front of us a device with its back and frame made of plastic, which gives us a weight of only 169 grams. The use of this material makes it more resistant to shocks and protects it from scratches, however, Motorola included a silicone case to protect it even more.
The Moto G52 has its rounded edges and its polishing gives it an elegant and shiny finish, worthy of any high-end. Its size, 160.1 x 74.5 x 8 mm, is ideal for handling with one hand and it is extremely light and comfortable to hold.
On the other hand, on its front Moto G52 is equipped with a 6.6-inch pOLED screen, giving us a screen-to-body ratio of 86.9 percent. Near the top edge we can find a slight perforation that houses the selfie camera of this device.
Moving on to the sides, on the left side there is only the tray to place the Nano SIM and the microSD card; and on the opposite side we can find the volume control and the on/off button that also hides the fingerprint sensor. On the upper edge we can find a secondary microphone and on the lower one there are: 3.5mm jack, microphone, USB-C port and the speaker.
Finally, on the back, we find an oval module that houses the three lenses that make up the main camera and the Led Flash. This Motorola smartphone is also IP52 certified, so it’s splash resistant but can’t be submerged.
SCREEN
Moving on to the screen, as we mentioned above, we have a 6.6-inch pOLED display with a Full HD resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 20:9 ratio. On the other hand, it has a refresh rate of 90Hz, which can be used adaptively or directly at 90Hz or 60Hz.
The screen of the Moto G52 really provides correctly saturated and sharp colors, with a good white balance, allowing us to enjoy the content that we visualize, movies, series or video games. Of course, we can configure the colors with two options: natural or saturated, and vary their temperature from cold to warm.
On the other hand, the brightness level automatically adapts to the environment in which we find ourselves, that is if we configure it to do so. And although the automatic adaptation works adequately, to play it is advisable to modify it manually, since it darkens the screen in unlucky moments. This is because if we use the phone horizontally, our hand or finger can get closer to the proximity sensor, which will cause the brightness level to change.
As for the fluidity of the screen, we use the new Motorola smartphone with the adaptive configuration, and the change is not really noticeable. It should be noted that this happens if you are used to a device with a 120Hz frequency.
PERFORMANCE
Moving on to the heart of the Moto G52, it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor, accompanied by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. At a general level, performance is fluid and we have a good level of response.
When unlocking the device with the fingerprint sensor located on the right side, we can quickly access the desktop. With the Moto G52 we will have smooth performance when executing daily tasks such as social networks, WhatsApp, Tik Tok, and other apps that we use every day.
Response times are good, when opening any app the device responds quickly without taking too long. However, everything changes if we leave the apps running in the background, we can become slow.
Moving on to running more demanding apps like video games, we tested Call of Duty Mobile on the Moto G52. Of course, we run the title on Medium and High settings; and Media and Media. In both modes we had a great viewing experience, the fluidity is constant and the graphics look correct and sharp.
On the other hand, everything changes when we finish running the game and return to the main screen. After being immersed in our game for more than an hour we can notice some slowness. It should be noted that we did not notice excessive overheating, and as for its normal operation, it will only be enough to let it rest for a few minutes and everything will return to normal.
At the sound level, both in apps like Spotify or even in games, the audio is extremely clear and we will have great clarity, even with the sound at its maximum. The Moto G52 does not saturate at all and thanks to Dolby Atmos technology we can enjoy a pleasant sound experience. On the other hand, we can configure it to adapt to any sound situation, offering the best quality, or select it manually.
SOFTWARE
On the software side, Motorola and Google remain committed to providing near-pure Android. The Moto G52 was not going to be the exception and we have Android 12 as an engine at the operating system level.
On the other hand, Motorola incorporates a set of tools in its My UX application. It does not interfere with Google software and will allow us to work with music, videos, games and device themes. We will have the possibility to use the gestures: rotate to wake, styles, customize display, display settings, always on or watch, and games. The latter will allow us to deactivate some notifications when playing, in this way we will not have to worry if they send us thousands of WhatsApp messages.
Something that could not be missing, are the precious Moto Actions. With these we can execute quick actions such as: shake to turn on the camera, shake to turn on the light and capture with three fingers, and much more.
AUTONOMY
Going to autonomy the Moto G52 has a 5000mAh battery with 33W Turbo Charge (included in the box) and takes about an hour to reach 100 percent charge. But as always, if there is something that Motorola stands out for, it is the autonomy of its devices.
By using the device in a “traditional way”, that is, with apps with social networks, WhatsApp, casual games and others, we will have autonomy almost 30 hours or more. If, on the other hand, the use is more intense and we run apps for daily use and demanding games, we will get no more than 12 hours.
There is no doubt that with Motorola we can forget about carrying the charger with us. This mid-range device undoubtedly offers great autonomy.
CAMERA
Coming to the last section of this review, we have to talk about the camera system of the Moto G52. The main camera of this device is made up of three lenses: a 50 MP wide angle, f/1.8, 1/2.76″, 0.64 µm and PDAF; an 8 MP, f/2.2, 118˚, 1/4.0″ and 1.12 µm ultra wide angle; a macro lens of 2 MP and f / 2.4. Of course it has LED Flash, HDR, panorama and allows you to record 1080p video at 30.
The Moto G52 camera app responds quickly if we want to switch between functions such as: night mode, ultra RES, spot color, panorama and more. However, when it comes to focusing and shuttering we will find some delays, although it is not such if we are in broad daylight.
At a general level, and considering that we are talking about a mid-range device, in good light conditions we will obtain very good quality images. However, the exposure and sharpness could be better. On the other hand, the use of the macro lens does not provide great changes either, the sharpness is not present and the saturation and contrast are not enough to provide balanced colors.
It should be noted that despite the fact that we are not facing the best camera, Motorola is not used to it with other devices, we will be able to obtain worthy images to upload to social networks.
On the other hand, we have to highlight the ultra wide angle lens of the Moto G52, with this we can shutter large scenarios. In addition, a detail to take into account is that despite the fact that if we take the zoom to the maximum, the noise is present, but the image is quite sharp.
Going to dimly lit places or at night, the focus becomes slower and the shutter becomes slower. The reality is that whether we close nearby objects or a scene, we will have the presence of noise.
Night shuttered photos will not be sharp and will not have good exposure or contrast. However, despite having the night mode within its settings, the reality is that we will not have very different results.
Finally, we have to talk about the selfie camera of the Moto G52. This is a 16 MP f/2.5 1.0 µm wide angle lens. Although we do not have a properly equipped Led Flash, when detecting dimly lit or night environments, the same screen will activate the Flash.
However, on this occasion we have to say that the results obtained with the secondary camera are not as expected. At night, achieving an image with a good focus becomes a complicated task, and noise will be present at all times.
VIDEO
Finally, in terms of video, this Motorola device allows us to record in Full HD (1080p) and 30 FPS. One detail to note is that it is not possible to switch between the wide-angle and wide-angle lens during video recording.
Like what happens in the shutter of images, during the day we will have a good result when it comes to recording. However, during the night the noise will be present, so the quality of the filming will not be to your liking.
CONCLUSION
This device is designed for those who do not require a great graphic processing or use other demanding applications, but not for that reason not to enjoy some games in their favorite video games. In addition, the Moto G52 provides us with great autonomy and a screen on which we can enjoy our favorite series or movies.
The Moto G52 is undoubtedly a mid-range device that offers very good performance at a general level, considering its price-quality ratio. This device can be purchased at Motorola stores in the country and major retailers and operators in black or blue for a value of $61,999.
