The chef and businessman Michael Chiarelloone of the most popular chefs in the United States due to his long television career, has died at the age of 61 after undergoing surgery for several days for a allergic reaction which caused him to go into anaphylactic shock.
According to the agency Associated Pressthe death occurred last Friday in the Queen of the Valley Medical Center from Napa (California), where the cook would have been admitted a week receiving treatment emergency after shock. The specific circumstances regarding how or what caused the allergic reaction have not been revealed.
The news has shocked the American gastronomic world and parts of the world, especially due to the long career that Chiarello had carved out in culinary television shows over several decades, participating in shows of the caliber of top chef and Top Chef Masters.
From an Italian-American family, he began his career at a very young age, training in Culinary Institute of America from New York, opening its first own restaurant at only 22 years old. Later he expanded his name by opening other establishments where he has always carried Italian-Californian cuisine as his flag. Currently he was in charge of the kitchen of his last big project, the restaurant Bottega Napa Valleynamed best new restaurant by Zagat in 2008 and also selected by Forbes and Esquire.
He has participated in numerous television programs very popular, since the contest Next Iron Chef until Chopped, being a judge and special guest in many others. He has also starred in his own show for which he received a Emmy, Easy Entertaining With Michael Chiarello, and has published several cookbooks.
In 2016, Chiarello was accused of sexual harassment by two former restaurant employees Coquette, who also accused him of violating labor legislation. The case was resolved the following year with a Economic agreement out of court, the amount of which was not disclosed.
The Chiarello Group also recalled in a statement its venture in the world of wine and sustainability local creating the winery in 1999 Chiarello Family Vineyards and launching the brand NapaStyleits own line of artisan foods and kitchen and household utensils.
