The Human Development Index, where love flourishes
The study was not exhaustive, since it does not include other important countries in terms of population and economy. However, it gives clues about which couples feel more in love or happy with their relationship in those countries where the Human Development Index is higher.
And vice versa, where there is little development and access to basic rights such as education or health, affective relationships are less satisfactory. Cuba, for example, has a high HDI, although it does not have very high incomes, but it occupies 11th place in the ranking among the countries with couples most in love.
Countries with the highest Human Development Index (HDI) had the happiest couples, particularly when it came to intimacy. However, this peaked at an HDI of around 0.85.
The case of Germany, for example, is paradigmatic, because despite being one of the most economically developed countries, it was placed in 40th place in the ranking and below Nigeria and Vietnam.
The Human Development Index is an indicator, developed by the United Nations Development Program, used to classify countries into three levels of human development. The index is composed of life expectancy, education, and per capita income indicators.
Finally, the scientists recorded each country’s annual temperature, the level of gender inequality, and ‘collectivism’: the extent to which communities are prioritized over individuals.
