The number of people in moderate poverty went from 43.2 million in 2018 to 44.9 million in 2020, this meant an increase of 1.7 million, that is, it went from 34.9% of the population to 35.4%.
Extreme poverty skyrockets
The index of people in extreme poverty was the one that increased the most, going from 8.7 million in 2018 to 10.8 million, a increase of 2.1 million Mexicans.
In percentage terms, I represent 8.9% of the total population in 2020, when in 2018 it represented 8.0%, the index refers.
Mexicans living in extreme poverty are those with incomes below the monetary value of the basic food basket, which is 1,702.28 pesos per month in urban areas and 1,299.30 pesos per month in rural areas of the country.
