In the country, according to figures from the 2017 National Survey on Discrimination, carried out by Inegi, 23.3% of the population aged 18 or over could not access credit or loans for unjustified reasons. Within this type of credit, 24.3% of those surveyed said they received comments about their appearance and class, while 11.3% received a refusal for being a woman.
“The appearance or color of your skin makes people treat you differently and we want to identify the communities of entrepreneurs that have been affected by this racism and how they have suffered it,” explains Romero about a study that will be carried out throughout the program implementation.
Among the central objectives of this document are to make the entrepreneurial ecosystem recognize the problem of racism, make it visible and take actions to counteract the dynamics of discrimination.
Technology to connect more communities of entrepreneurs
While Impact Hub will collaborate with Meta to move different projects forward, they will not be focused on technology. “Mainly they are social enterprises, so we are looking for initiatives that are born from original communities or work with them. It is not about supporting technology companies, but about impacting their growth through technology,” Romero points out.
