Expansion (E): What kind of positions will be opened in the country?
David Geisen (DG): At Mercado Libre we continue betting on the talent of Mexicans, for this reason we will make a historic hiring in the country: 4,800 positions will be for the logistics and transportation part, 200 in technology and 200 between the business and staff.
This growth approach for Mexico complements what the company announced last February when it announced Mercado Libre’s investment in the country, allocating 1,475 million dollars in 2022 alone, which represents 67% of what the company has invested. in the last five years.
E: If you could define the basic profile of Mercado Libre’s collaborators, what would it be?
DG: It is important to highlight that we understand talent as learning capacity and we seek to attract, select and add the best talents who constantly seek to innovate. That is the basic profile of the collaborators (that we need) in Mercado Libre to continue leading with the democratization of commerce in the region and continue building the yellow DNA of the entrepreneur in the company.
E: Of the new positions, will some be to employ the young people who participated last year in your Redes al Futuro program?
DG: In general, each generation of young people from Redes al Futuro allows us to integrate part of the graduates in positions according to their profile. Potentially these positions could be occupied by young people who are part of said initiative.
E: They mention that several of the jobs will be the first job for people who live near the operation centers. In that sense, is there an age group that you are considering for these new positions? Is there a requested distance limit?
DG: We do not define a particular age range for these new positions, we focus on opening different jobs for all those who want to be part of our e-commerce platform, whose profiles make match with our DNA. Of course, around our centers, part of the community finds employment opportunities with us and in many of these cases they are young people who are having access to their first job. Our centers are in the State of Mexico, Monterrey and Guadalajara.
E: What soft and technical skills are most valued by Mercado Libre?
DG: At Mercado Libre we believe that technical skills can be learned over time and co-workers who have a great expertise, but teamwork is valued more, regardless of whether it is face-to-face or remote, because innovation arises through collaboration. When we manage to build teams with diverse capacities that work collaboratively, we can achieve better results in each area.
The foregoing is part of our organizational culture, which seeks to empower professionals and build relationships of trust, freedom and autonomy, which have been essential elements in the essence of the company since its inception.
E: How is the vision of the campus that you have? That is, how is it different from the office they had before the pandemic?
DG: One of the challenges that working under this virtual modality brings is how we make sure that we continue to maintain culture and social connection, to achieve this we are working in a reformulation of the concept of “office” to that of “campus” that applies to 18,000 people from the Mercado Libre team in Latin America.
The campus differs from a traditional office in that it is a place where collaborators will obtain different experiences so that they can approach spaces for learning and social interaction to be able to do after-office and team meetings.
E: In what type of work will the new talents be?
DG: There will be positions with a 100% face-to-face model, and hundreds of them also for a virtual model, according to the role to be played.
I: How do you define the experience of being a Mercado Libre employee?
DG: I would define my experience at Mercado Libre as a few years full of challenges and learning. It is incredible to be part of this great team full of brilliant and energetic people, who show day by day that betting on teamwork and enhancing the skills of our people is the best decision to continue being the main allies of entrepreneurs and big brands. .
In addition, Mercado Libre’s DNA always invites me to give my best, we say “give that extra mile” and without a doubt it is reflected in the work results. I am proud of everything we do, learn, have achieved and continue to build.
