Another increase came in March this year, six months after the company raised the price of its connectivity package. Through an email, Megacable notified the user that they would raise the rates for their services again.
Telecom operators invested to upgrade and expand their infrastructure amid a boom in user demand to address new home connectivity needs. The company chaired by Enrique Yamuni detailed in its financial report for the last quarter of last year that it invested 3,164 million pesos to expand its network, for which it increased its connectivity prices.
“It is a new reality that involves large investments and, in order to continue providing the services you deserve, we are forced to make an adjustment to your rate as of March 1, because our operating costs such as labor, fuel , electricity and supplies have increased sharply in recent months,” Megacable explained to Ariana P. via email.
Now, the user must pay 570 pesos, 9.6% more than in September. In less than a year, he went from paying 449 pesos to 570 pesos, that is, 29.6% more for his connectivity services.
“The price increase is abusive and unfortunately in the place where we live it is the only telephone and internet service provider that operates in the area and in many other places in Querétaro,” said the user.
The company explains in the email that was sent to Ariana P. that it has built a new fiber optic network in her city (Querétaro), in addition to new internet equipment, state-of-the-art television, as well as monitoring systems. The mail also mentions investments to expand the transmission capacity of networks and links by contracting higher bandwidths.
Megacable confirmed to Expansión that starting this month they will increase the price of their services.
Telecommunications companies have increased their rates since last year due to the investments they have made to improve their infrastructure. The most recent case is that of Totalplay, which through emails is notifying its users of the rate hike to provide more internet speeds.
