EA announced that it had signed a deal with Marvel to develop three action games based on the Marvel Universe. According to the company, each will feature original stories and will be released in consoles and PCs. The initial contract contemplates three titles, being Hombre de Hierro one of them, although there is the possibility of expanding it in the future.
The creators of FIFA Y Battlefield posted a blog entry where they are offered some details of the agreement. Apart from the usual statements by executives where each congratulates or anticipates that he has always been a fan of Marvel, the announcement specifies that it is about three action adventure games. The projects will be focused on desktop consoles and PCs, although the platforms are not specified.
The first on the list is Hombre de Hierro, the game that was revealed at the end of September and that will be in charge of EA Motive. During the announcement it was said that the next title based on the popular character will be a single player experience with a total focus on narrative. The Iron Man game will have a third-person view and will be action-adventure, a genre that is more attractive than the VR proposal that was launched on PlayStation a few months ago.
While it was not revealed that all three games will be single player, at least they all aspire to the same genre. Jay Ong, executive vice president of Marvel Games, revealed that his company will operate as a creative collaborator, although developers will be free to create something “deeply unique and truly remarkable.”
Marvel trusts EA, despite the fiasco of starwars
EA COO Laura Miele stated that they are long-time Marvel fans and that this collaboration will produce “exceptional experiences” for players. For their part, Marvel said they always strive to find the best gear to take their characters on. heroic journeys never seen before. For the Disney subsidiary, EA is the ideal partner to achieve this and has given it the vote of confidence.
Although it is too early to get excited, the truth is that EA’s track record hasn’t been good in the last few yearsyes The perfect example is starwarsan exclusive license that resulted in the fiasco of star wars battlefront and its sequel. Though Jedi: Fallen Order was an unexpected success, previous stumbles were enough for Disney to open up the franchise to other developers.
With the new agreement signed with Marvel, EA has a chance to vindicate itself in the field of games based on a license. Hombre de Hierro will follow the path of Jedi: Fallen Order and will bet on a genre that has proven to have followers. To ensure success, EA Motive hired Olivier Proulx, an Eidos Montreal veteran who has already worked on Guardians of the Galaxy.
The release date of Hombre de Hierro and the other two Marvel games is still a long way off. EA confirmed that the game is in a very early stage of development and it will take some time to hear news about it.
