Marseille did not appear on the Allianz Riviera pitch to resume the match against Nice, interrupted by the invasion of the field by local fans, and the match of the third day of Ligue 1 was suspended.
After more than an hour of interruption, the referee and the footballers of the Nicaraguan team jumped onto the pitch, but the Marseille team decided to leave the stadium. The match came to a halt in the 74th minute when radical supporters of Nice jumped onto the pitch to attack the players of the Marseille after Dimitri Payet was hit by a bottle which he angrily returned to the stands.
The player from the Marseille team and some of his teammates, such as the Spaniard Álvaro, faced off with the fans who stormed onto the pitch with the intention of attacking the footballers. The players searched the locker room tunnel. The visiting coach, Argentine Jorge Sampaoli, faced some fans and had to be controlled by his coaching staff.
The president of Nice, Jean Pierre Rivere, came down from the box to the field and went to the stands area to try to calm down. Later, in the locker room and with calm spirits, it was decided to resume the game, to which Marseille opposed. The referee and the local players took to the field, but the visitors did not appear and the match was called off.
The match ended with a provisional victory for Nice, who scored at the start of the second half through the Danish Kasper Dolberg on a pass from the Swiss Jordan Lotomba. However, now everything is pending the resolution adopted in the next few days by the sports authorities of French football.
