With a shortage of experienced AI professionals to meet the demand for these roles, US companies are offering competitive six-figure salaries in a bid to attract skilled workers, recruiters have reported to the Journal.
“This is pure market economics,” Paul J. Groce, a partner at executive recruiting firm Leathwaite, told the WSJ. “We don’t magically have thousands of additional AI developers, product managers and everything else.”
Last month, Netflix grabbed headlines for offering up to $900,000 for an AI-focused product manager position amid strikes by actors and writers.
The Hinge dating app is hiring a vice president of artificial intelligence who could earn up to $398,000 dollars (6.7 million pesos) per year to lead the application’s AI strategy, and Amazon published a job offer for a senior manager in applied sciences and generative AI who could receive a salary of up to $340,300 dollars (5.8 million pesos).
It’s not just tech companies that are jumping on the AI bandwagon. Capital One posted a job opening for a distinguished generative AI engineer, offering a salary of up to $325,700, while Walmart is looking for a senior manager for its conversational AI platform who could earn between $168,000 and $252,000 a year.
“As breakthroughs come to fruition, we are creating new jobs and opportunities for associates to learn new skills,” a Walmart spokesperson said.

Early and mid-career workers who are familiar with AI can also benefit, in some cases, with nothing more than a college degree.
