Madrid, Sep 5 (EFE) .- FIFA has reported this Sunday that it has appointed the Anglo-American coach Jill Ellis, former coach of the United States, to lead the Technical Advisory Group on the future of women’s football.
It is, according to FIFA, “a group of opinion leaders to study the future of women’s football.”
The coach, a two-time winner of the Women’s World Cup at the helm of the United States team (2014 and 2019) and who turns 55 this Monday, “will work with stakeholders from all platforms to examine and explore ways to improve the current match schedule and foster global development and competitiveness. “
“It is an exciting time for women’s football, which is growing strongly, but it is vital that we do not stand still,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said on Sunday.
“Jill’s experience and knowledge, combined with her future-oriented mindset, make her the perfect candidate to explore and lead the way forward to ensure this positive trajectory continues.”
Ellis herself said, during a press meeting: “I am looking forward to working with FIFA and bringing together the best minds in our sport. I look forward to a diverse and meaningful dialogue to examine how to improve the landscape of women’s football.”
“Possible areas for discussion will include introducing more meaningful and regular competition at all levels and globally, optimizing youth development structures and improving training and education standards,” he added.
Ellis coached the United States women’s national soccer team from 2014 to October 2019 and won two consecutive World Cups, 2015 and 2019.
She left the post in October 2019 and is currently an ambassador for the United States Soccer Federation.
