What pieces will return to Mexico?
The Ministry of Culture detailed in a statement that The recovery and restitution of the pieces is due to the work of the General Command of the Arms of the Carabineros for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.
The archaeological pieces correspond to the pre-Hispanic era, particularly from the 3rd to the 7th centuries AD, which will return to Mexico via diplomatic means.
During the ceremony, the federal official recalled that in the last four years, Mexico has made energetic demonstrations against auctions and the sale of pieces that belong to our cultures.
11,500 pieces have been recovered
Alejandra Frausto highlighted that after promoting the “My heritage is not for sale” movement, there has been a favorable response from collectors, private companies and citizens in general from various parts of the world, in addition to Italy, such as Sweden, the United States, Germany or South Korea, from where pre-Hispanic pieces from various cultures have been voluntarily returned to Mexico.
Until now the recovery of more than 11,500 archaeological and historical pieces has been achieved and several international auctions or online sales have been cancelled.
