Beyond the eternal joke of seeing the Guarromán sign on the A-4, a municipality in Jaén with barely 3,000 inhabitants, the reality is that it is a town that a cheese factory has put on the world map with one of the best cheeses in the world.
It is not a set phrase, far from it, it is a certainty. Established in 2021 as the Best Cheese in the World, according to the World Cheese Awards, which we could describe as the Cheese Oscars, this creation of a Guarromanense cheese factory has crossed borders.
And now at last you can buy it directly at the cheese shop. We are talking about the Quesos y Besos cheese factory, which has made lactic coagulation goat cheese its turófilo workhorse with which to conquer half the world.
The award-winning cheese in question is called Olavidia and it belongs to that genre of lactic coagulations, with natural mold and charcoal, which is made with goat’s milk after slow pasteurization that allows the flavors and quality of the milk to be fully maintained.
Of short maturation —barely two or three weeks—, Olavidia is a cheese that is sold in unitary format with a weight of about 250 grams and that it has a fresh and milky aftertaste, very tasty and refreshing, and that can be bought almost at the foot of the A-4, where it is found in a small detour at kilometer 280, shortly before entering Guarromán —if we come from the north—or to the outskirts of the town—if we take the A-4 from the south.
Westmark Professional Cheese Knife/Cutter, Blade Size: 13.5 cm, Length: 25 cm, Stainless Steel/Plastic, Master Line, Black/Silver, 13562270
With a price of 15.45 euros for each unit, Olavidia is not a cheese that we could classify as cheap, but the occasion deserves it if we are driving on the A-4 this summer and want to bring back a souvenir that is truly worth the trip.
