Three rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory and the army responded with fire, the army said. There was no immediate information on damage or injuries.
The announcement came after Wednesday sirens will sound in northern Israel warning of a possible rocket attack from Lebanon and that television reports said Israel is returning fire.
The Channel 12 He reported that one rocket exploded in an open area and another was intercepted by Israel’s defense system, known as the Iron Dome.
The army said it returned the artillery fire in response “towards Lebanese territory”, according to the statement.
Sirens sounded near Kiryat Shmona, a community of about 20,000 near the Lebanese border. There have been several similar incidents in recent months.
Israeli authorities believe the shots were launched by Palestinian groups based in Lebanon and not by the terrorist group Hezbollah. Palestinian groups are unlikely to be able to act without the consent of the Lebanese Shiite movement.
